Some text-based game creation software also comes with an online platform where you can upload the game. More commonly, the creator will upload the game to IF Archive, and post a description at IFDB. How I did it was I have two variables: one to hold the full line of text (let's call it line) and another to hold the scrolling text (display). When the text box is running, I periodically add characters from line one-by-one to display using an Alarm event, and the text box's Draw event draws display on the game window.

I'm not positive (never used Game Maker before) but the manual appears to state that a # will work (though that may only work for draw_string). You can also try Chr(13) + Chr(10), which are a carriage return and linefeed.
So, you could try:

Despite the other mentioned methods are more 'correct', in Game Maker you can also write the new line straight in the code editor:
But codes get a bit messy this way.

To create a new line use # So for example

Game Maker 1.4 can use the pound sign for newlines, as well as the linefeed character (
chr(10)
):
Since GameMakerStudio 2 you can now use escaped characters;

Here's another example. Instead of having a message box come up, you could use the function
draw_text(x,y,string)
An example of this would be:
draw_text(320,320,'Hello World');
Hope this helps

Next, write the first room description. Try to make the first setting interesting, as many players will walk away if they see an empty apartment. Here's an example of the first thing a player might see when they start up the game (labeled for convenience):How To Add Text Box In Game Maker For Mac
- Introduction: You redeemed your entire collection of pudding coupons for this yacht, and now it's adrift at sea. Typical luck. Better see whether Lucy weathered the storm. You think she was in the engine room when it hit.
- Logistics and content warning: Welcome to The Frugal Man's Yacht Trip. Type check coupons to see your current collection. Use the command redeem followed by the name of the coupon to use these mysteriously helpful items. Warning: game depicts mild violence and cannibalism.
- Room description: You are standing in an oak-panelled bunk room. The metal bunk frame fell over during the storm, and the only mattress lies torn and soggy under the liquor cabinet. There is a closed door to the north.
